Course Syllabus

Even the most experienced first aiders can lose confidence if they haven’t practised their skills for a while. The Annual Refresher course is designed to support trained first aiders in maintaining their knowledge, updating techniques, and reinforcing key practical skills. This short course is ideal for anyone who holds a current First Aid at Work qualification and wants to keep their training fresh in between formal requalification cycles.

Delivered over half a day, the course is fast-paced and practical, revisiting the essential elements of workplace first aid. Participants will review how to manage an unconscious casualty, perform CPR, use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and assist someone who is choking. It also provides an opportunity to ask questions, clarify procedures, and practise in a safe and supportive environment.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) strongly recommends that workplace first aiders complete an annual refresher to maintain their competence. While not mandatory, many organisations see this as best practice and a key part of their internal risk management and safety culture. For regulated industries or settings where teams work in isolated roles, high-risk environments, or with vulnerable individuals, a regular refresh ensures everyone remains confident and prepared to respond.

This course benefits both the organisation and the individual. For employers, it shows a proactive commitment to workplace safety and supports compliance with health and safety guidance. For individual learners, it offers reassurance that they can still apply their first aid training effectively and make a difference in an emergency.

Learners leave the session with their skills refreshed, questions answered, and confidence restored. It’s a practical, time-efficient way to stay ready — because in an emergency, hesitation can cost precious seconds.
